The First Training Courses of Chan (Meditation) of Shaolin Temple Opened

On March 1, 2025, Shaolin Temple’ s first training courses of Chan (meditation) opening ceremony was hosted in the Meditation Hall of Shaolin Temple. This is a measure to cultivate Buddhist talents with true meditation and practice for Shaolin Temple.

Shaolin Temple was originally built in 495 by Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty to settle eminent monk Batuo from India. Ideology on Chan from Batuo to Sengchou is throughout Shaolin Temple’ s whole history of 1,530 years. After Batuo, another eminent monk Bodhidharma from India got to Shaolin Temple. He had faced the wall for nine years on the back mountain of Shaolin Temple and then started initially preached Chan Buddhism of China.
