The Grand Opening of the 8th China Summit Forum of Buddhist Medicine
On May 26, 2018, at 9:00 am, the 8th China Summit Forum of Buddhist Medicine grandly began with the theme featured “Incense Cultivation and the Human Health Culture” to explore “Three Treatments and Seven Cultivations” that benefits the health and fitness of human’s body and mind.
Head of Shaolin Pharmacy Bureau Master Yanlin, President of China Pharmaceutical Culture Society Yu Tongsheng, the team leader of the national standards for the combination of nutrition and medicine Liu Junjie, President of Chinese People Federation Guan Guanqing, Deputy Dean of Chinese Classics College of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and Director of Chinese Medicine Research Base of Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council Li Liangsong and other scholars as well as believers of ten directions, including thousands of people, attended the opening ceremony.
At 9:00 am, Shaolin monks and the participants lined up at the Shaolin Temple’s platform. Shaolin Temple’s Master Yongfu led two Buddha disciple to offer incense and worship Buddha to pray for the world peace, people’s happiness, the prosperous country as well as good weather.
On the opening ceremony, Master Yanlin represented the Shaolin Temple’s Abbot Shi Yongxin to welcome all leaders and guests for coming. He said, “Chan Medicine is an integral part of Buddhism. On the basis of history, Shaolin Temple’s high masters of all dynasties combined strong points of all schools to shape the particular Chan Wu Yi culture of Shaolin Temple through the practice for thousands of years.
Deputy Dean of Chinese Classics College of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and Director of Chinese Medicine Research Base of Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council Li Liangsong spoke that he associated with Chan Medicine of Shaolin Temple because of the “Chinese Buddhist Medical Book” ten years ago. Since then, he has worked with Shaolin Pharmacy Bureau to research subjects and focus on human health. According to the data of Chinese Center for Disease Control And Prevention, at present there are as many as 190 million patients with psychological problems in China. Buddhism medicine stresses free treatment, opens the pharmacy profession and also has strong practical significance now.
President of Chinese People Federation Guan Guanqing spoke that the word “incense” can be seen everywhere in life. Recently, people are surprised to find that the incense way or fragrance could treat physical and mental illness in historical dramas. The concept of “Three Treatments and Seven Cultivations” of Shaolin Chan Medicine was hoped to let everyone be filled with fragrance on the forum.
As the representative of incense industry, Chairman of Shanghai Yunxiangtang Industrial co.LTD Mr. Xulin exclaimed that incense culture has a place in the traditional Chinese culture and each time the peak of incense culture is inseparable from the flourishing of Buddhist culture. Unfortunately, incense culture appeared fault in the history, which cause people not to know much about incense culture and the quality of incense products in the market is uneven.
At the end of the opening ceremony, Minister of China Ageing Development Foundation and former vice director of Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee Zhu Fangyong gave calligraphy works of “Shaolin Incense Cutivation” to Shaolin Temple and wished the 8th China Summit Forum of Buddhist Medicine has a complete success.
So far, the 8th China Summit Forum of Buddhist Medicine officially opened. In the next two days, experts and scholars around the world will gather in the Shaolin Mountain and explore the incense cultivation and human health culture together. (Editor: Yue Long)
